Catch some waves with this fun CVC word families activity! It’s a great way to add some summer fun to your literacy centers and word work time. This activity is the perfect addition to our CVC Activity Packet and CVC Phonics Mats!
This activity was super quick and easy to prep! Just print the 5 pages on cardstock, and then cut along the black lines. I used a paper cutter to cut them out super quickly! To make the cards more durable, you can laminate them, too.
DOING THE ACTIVITY
Spread the cards out on a table or the floor. Separate the surfer guy cards from the surfboard cards.
For kiddos just starting to work on word families, you can give them just two or three to start. For kiddos who are more familiar with CVC word families, you can give them all ten. The kids chose a surfer guy card and put it on the left.
Then they went through the surf board cards and placed the cards that are part of the same word family next to the surfer guy.
You can also differentiate this activity by using the cards for a game of memory. Flip all the cards over. The first student turns two cards over. If the cards are part of the same word family, the student keeps the cards and takes another turn. If the cards are not part of the same word family, the students flips the cards back over. It’s then the next child’s turn.
