MATERIALS
All you need for this fun cavity is a bag of candy hearts. I like to use the large size, because the words are easier to read.
PREPPING THE ACTIVITY
This activity is super quick and easy to prep. Just print the two pages, and then use a paper cutter to rim around the edges. The make these last year after year, I like to either print them on cardstock or laminate them. You could also place them in plastic sleeves, like these found on Amazon.
DOING THE ACTIVITY
To start, we spread the sentence strips out on a table. We chose one sentence to do together. Little B read the sentence, “Kaycie gave her grandpa lots of____.” Then I picked up the heart with “nice boy” on it. I asked the kids to put this heart in the blank space and read the sentence.
Little B read, “Kaycie gave her grandpa lots of nice boy.” Everyone cracked up! They just love making silly sentences!
Next I had the kids look through the candy heart to find one that would make sense in the blank space of this sentence. They picked up a few heart, plugged them into the sentence, and read the sentence.
After a few tries, Little A grabbed the heart with “hugs and kisses” on it.
She placed it on the blank space and then read, “Kaycie gave her grandpa lots of hugs and kisses.” Everyone agreed that this heart made sense!
After doing one together, I let the kids choose which sentences they wanted to do next. If your kiddos are anything like mine, they’ll choose the sentences based on the pictures 😉
The kids did the same process for each sentence until they had done every sentence (and had eaten every candy heart!)
